What to expect
Day one starts with a 230km road ride to Barsu, through the cities of Rishikesh, Chamba, and Uttarkashi, and through the river Bhagirathi. Breakfast and lunch will take place through the roadside inns you’ll pass along the way. Upon arrival at Barsu, your trek begins. It’s two kilometers to the campsite, and after your long journey, dinner and rest at the campsite will be welcome. Day two starts early: you depart for Barnala Tal, trekking through the forest in an easy pass. In Barnala, you’ll have a hot lunch before you do an exploratory walk around the area and seek out the Nag Dev Temple. Upon return, you’ll have refreshment and snacks before some free time. This is followed by dinner before lights out. The third day begins with your trek to Dayara Bugyal itself, headed to Bakaria Top from your campsite. It’s a trek of moderate difficulty, hiking up the incline and passing through oak and rhododendron forests. At Dayara View Point, you’ll be able to have your packed lunch, which should fortify you for the 3km trek to Bakaria top. Be advised that some areas can get quite steep here, so be sure of your footing. At Bakaraia Top, you’ll behold the breathtaking panoramic landscapes before you, revel in the success of your trek, and enjoy your time at the peak before descending back to Barnala for dinner and a bonfire at the campsite. Day four directs you back to Barsu village after breakfast, and you will again make the 230km drive back to Haridwar.
